Street Sweeping Program

Street Sweeping Program

The Town of Indian Trail established its Street Sweeping Program in response to federal and state clean water regulations. Per these regulations, as a best management practice (BMP), the Town must sweep its streets annually.

Street sweeping removes debris from streets and gutters before it can enter the storm drain system, providing a healthy, safe, and attractive environment for Indian Trail residents.

In previous years, the Town rented a street sweeper when needed. In 2024, the Town purchased a street sweeper to be able to clean residential roadways, heavily trafficked intersections, Town-owned parking lots, and other areas more frequently.

Street Sweeping

Residential Streets

Each quarter, the Town will sweep public residential streets within subdivisions throughout Indian Trail, ensuring that each subdivision has its streets swept multiple times per year. Streets will not be swept on assigned solid waste pick-up days.

Private streets, unincorporated Union County roads, and alleys will not be swept.

NCDOT Roads

In addition to public residential streets, the Town will sweep NCDOT-owned subdivision roads and other NCDOT-owned roads as needed, including Highway 74 and Old Monroe Road. This includes cleaning high-traffic intersections, such as those on Highway 74, to keep them safe and clear of debris.

Additional Uses

The Town will be able to use the street sweep to clean Town-owned parking lots before and after events, clean up Indian Trail Road before and after the July 4 and Christmas Parades, and additional activities as needed.
