[ARCHIVED] Matilda Jr. Comes to Indian Trail

Matilda Jr performances on July 20 at 1 and 5 p.m. at Sun Valley High School

Indian Trail Parks and Recreation has partnered with Lanti Performing Arts to offer a one-of-a-kind performance of Matilda Jr. on Saturday, July 20. Performances will occur at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Sun Valley High School (5211 Old Charlotte Highway).

Tickets are $12 each, plus taxes and fees. Children aged three and under do require a ticket, but they must remain on an adult’s lap during the entire performance. To purchase tickets, visit https://24636.recitalticketing.com/r/events/. While tickets can be purchased at the door, guests are encouraged to purchase tickets online and select their seats in advance.

In addition to the Saturday performances, Indian Trail Parks and Recreation is hosting a free daycare/summer camp field trip on Friday, July 19, to watch a dress rehearsal of Matilda Jr. at Sun Valley High School. If you operate a daycare or summer camp and would like to attend, please contact Parks and Recreation Director Hayden Kramer at hpk@indiantrail.org by Tuesday, July 16.

“Indian Trail Parks and Recreation and Lanti Performing Arts are excited to bring art and live theatre to the community,” Kramer said. “These special performances of Matilda Jr. are put on by a youth cast, ranging in age from 8 to 18. Bringing Matilda Jr. to Indian Trail is a fun way to engage the community and provide an opportunity for people to get together and enjoy a family-friendly experience.”

This project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

About Matilda Jr.

Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story is of a girl who dreams of a better life, and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda JR. is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.
