Comprehensive Town Plan
The Plan provides guidance for future development in Indian Trail and establishes a guide for zoning, land use, economic development, public facilities and utilities decision-making by Town officials.

Downtown Master Plan
The Downtown Master Plan, adopted in 2023, is a small area plan that works in collaboration with the Comprehensive Plan to help guide future development specifically in the downtown area. The guidelines of the Downtown Master Plan are intended to provide the tools for creating a vibrant downtown which promotes a diversity of uses and users, while promoting opportunities to live, work and play.

Pedestrian Plan
This update to the Town’s Pedestrian Plan was adopted in 2024. Its purpose was to evaluate the existing 2009 Pedestrian Plan, reanalyze current walking conditions, and recommend future improvement projects considering safety, connectivity, and well-being for people of all ages and abilities.

Bicycle Master Plan
The purpose of the Bicycle Master plan is to provide a well connected bicycle network to allow residents an alternative means to safely reach destinations via the bicycle.

Secrest Short Cut Small Area Plan
Union County and the Town of Indian Trail have developed a small area plan for the Secrest Short Cut area to guide future growth near the Monroe Expressway interchange at Unionville-Indian Trail Road. The plan aims to reflect community priorities and guide economic development opportunities in the changing landscape.

Carolina Thread Trail Master Plan
Led by the Carolina Thread Trail initiative, representatives from municipal and county governments as well as vested organizations and individuals worked together in an intensive planning process to prioritize important destinations and transportation routes within the county. The result of their efforts is a proposed system of greenways and trails linking together many of the existing trails, parks, town centers, historic sites, and natural features that define Union County. The plan was finalized in September 2011.

Parks and Greenway Master Plan
Adopted on February 23, 2010, The Parks and Greenway Plan provides a framework of future parks and greenways locations based on the desires of its citizens and leaders, and presents recommendations and implementation strategies for reaching that vision.
